From July 14 to October 16, 2009, the Ontario government released the initial proposed Accessible Built Environment Standard for public review.

The goal of the proposed standard is to break down barriers in buildings and other structures for people with disabilities by proposing requirements in areas such as:

  • entrances, doorways and ramps
  • parking spaces
  • signs and displays
  • recreation, such as parks and trails.

The committee will now revise the proposed standard to reflect the public's input. It will then submit a final proposed standard to the government for consideration as law.
