The Family Responsibility Office enforces domestic contracts (including paternity agreements) that have been filed with the courts.

A domestic contract is a legal agreement between the person paying the support and the person receiving the support.

The agreement sets out the amount of support that the payor will pay the recipient.

If you have a domestic contract and would like us to enforce the terms of the contract on your behalf, you can register with us.

What you need to do

  1. File your domestic contract with the clerk at the Ontario Court of Justice or Superior Court of Justice (Family Court). You will receive a stamped copy of the domestic contract.
  2. At the court, also complete the form entitled "Affidavit for Filing Domestic Contract or Paternity Agreement with Court". (This form is also called the Family Law Rules [Form 26B.])
  3. Complete the Family Responsibility Office Registration Package. You can download the forms here or you can call us and ask us to send you the forms. The number to call is 416-243-1909.

Send us the:

  • completed Registration Package,
  • the stamped copy of the domestic contract, and
  • the sworn "Affidavit for Filing Domestic Contract or Paternity Agreement with Court"

to:

The Family Responsibility Office
Ministry of Community and Social Services
P.O. Box 220

When we receive these forms, we will register your case. We do this by:

  • assigning the case a number
  • contacting both the support payor and the support recipient to:
    • provide them with the case number and a confidential Personal Identification Number (PIN), and
    • explain how the program works and what their responsibilities are.

nce the case is registered, we start the process of collecting support payments from the payor and sending them to the support recipient.
