When we register your case, we can begin the process of collecting your support payments.

When the support payor has a regular source of income (such as a job)

We send the support deduction notice to the support payor's employer.

Although support payors make payments according to the terms of the court order or domestic contract, the actual payment dates may vary. This is because a payor's employer has the legal right to make payroll deductions according to their pay schedules - even if these dates are different from the dates in the court order.

The employer deducts the support payment in the next pay period and sends it to us for processing. The employer cannot deduct the support payments from the payor's earnings before the support is due. That is why you will not receive payment until after the court-ordered due date.

It usually takes anywhere from 30 to 60 days from the time we register your case to the time you start receiving your first support payments. In the meantime, the support payor is still responsible for making the payments through us.

When we receive a support payment from the payor, we usually forward it to you by direct deposit within 24 to 48 hours.

When the support payor is not on a regular payroll

Support payors who are self-employed, unemployed or not on a regular payroll make their support payments directly to us. There are several payment options - cheque, money order, pre-authorized payments are a few examples.
