Most of our clients willingly pay their support fully and on time.

Unfortunately, sometimes people fall behind on their support responsibilities.

If you fall behind in your support payments it is important to contact our office as soon as possible at 416-326-1817 or Toll-free at 1-800-267-4330. Together, we can work out a voluntary repayment plan.

If you do not meet your support responsibilities, we have the legal authority and responsibility to take enforcement action to recover the money that you owe.

Some of the enforcement actions that we can take include:

  • garnish bank accounts
  • report you to a credit bureau
  • suspend your driver's license
  • garnish money you may receive from the Federal Government (for example, income tax refunds, GST rebates, employment insurance, Canada Pension Plan benefits)
  • suspend a Canadian passport and other federal licences (such as a pilot's licence)
  • place a lien on personal property
  • reporting you to a professional or occupational organization
  • seizing lottery winnings
  • issue a writ of seizure and sale property you own
  • Default Hearing (A Default Hearing is a hearing in family court before a judge. You have to explain why you are behind in your payments.)

Posting personal information online

If someone has not made a support payment in the last six months and we have exhausted all efforts in trying to locate that person, we may post personal information about that person on goodparentspay.com.

Goodparentspay.com is a section on this website. Its purpose is to ask the public's help in locating a defaulting payor.

Here is the kind of information we may post:

  • photograph
  • name
  • physical description (height, weight, hair and eye colour)
  • approximate age
  • last known address
  • usual occupation/trades, and
  • language(s) spoken.

Before we post the information, we get consent from the support recipient.

The public can provide tips and information anonymously by e-mail, telephone or letter.

When the missing defaulting support payor contacts us with information, we update the file and immediately remove the information from the website.
